Festival Style

Festival season is in full swing. Longitude kicks off this Weekend with still Electric Picnic to come. You only have to log onto any social media site to see all the snaps and how the style at these events has evolved. I have mentioned before when talking about festival fashion, that this wasn’t always the case. For the longest time the chosen attire was more functional and weather permitting. Although mother nature does still restrict us in ways, it is not the priority. More and more are choosing to really just go for it and have fun. Add some face jewels , a hat , anything goes. Put together something you wouldn’t usually wear and really up the ante. Peacock the sh*t out of that festival.

Here are some looks that i feel wouldn’t look out of place in any field this summer. Or have a look at a magazine shoot i styled focusing on this very subject. Take some inspiration from here, there and everywhere and make it your own.

Camo has already been huge this season. It is a perfect print for roughing it at a festival. Tough and cool with a 90’s twist. Mix it up with a soft playful sundress and some boots. The bag well that is the fun factor. This would be my look of choice.

You can’t tak about festival style and not mention boho. The original bohemian vibes from legendary Woodstock are still popular today. A seriously cute two piece with accenting flower crown. Finished with the festival bag of choice – the bum bag and some tonal gladiator sandals. A really summery look.

Keeping with the boho style of things with a really cool tapestry style jacket. Paired with the festival essential – denim shorts. Tan accessories keep the look super stylish. A straw hat and some matching face paint finish off the look.

Sports luxe is really popular at the moment, not to mention cool and comfy. Playing on the 90’s vibe again but in more modern way. Lots of print , texture and rawness in this look that pulls together really well.

This look features two of this summers biggest pieces – Bolo chokers and bardot necklines. Both of which look sooo good together. Mixing a smarter cut dress like this with flat fringe booties gives a real edgy vibe. Adding in some shimmer to your bare shoulder and legs. Finish off the look with some pretty face gems.

Festival Fashion | Shop The Shoot

The weeks have flown by and Summer is almost upon us. With Summer comes another type of season, that is – festival season. Kicking off this June and running right through until October. There was once a time when festival wear was just functional, run of the mill. Now-a-days festivals are super trendy with some of the most stylish looks to be seen. We only have to look to Coachella to back this one up.

For the June issue of In Tallaght magazine i styled some festival worthy outfits that are available in The Square. In keeping with the traditional festival vibe that is colourful , fun and relaxed – i paired some 70’s inspired bohemian offerings with some more modern pieces too. There is lots of denim seen here which is a great material to build on for festivals. Both practical and cool. Pair a light flowey number with some wellie boots for the ultimate festival outfit. This option is really cool and will keep you looking the part. Debenhams have a huge range of accessories to pile on with your outfits. More is more when it comes to nailing this look. With any luck the weather will be on our side to enjoy these great events. Fear not if Mr rain appears though as there are some really cool rain macs from DV8 that will only add to your look. These looks are playful, colourful and practical. I tried to get a good mix of textures, prints and colours as that it the epitome of festival style. From kimonos to playsuits, tough jackets to denim skirts, there is something for everyone.

Here is a look and a chance to shop the shoot for some inspiration. Whatever your plans are this season, be it Forbidden Fruits, Longitude or Electric Picnic, we have style covered so you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Hair and make-up…

For Hayley, the girls in the Style Club created this braided bun look. It suited her perfectly and worked so well for the mood of the shoot. Brandi In Urban Decay worked her magic with the magic and added this face tattoo , €3.99 from Claire’s. The colours just really popped. A really fun, funky style. I have to say the tattoo lasted all day through the shoot so will stand the test of festivals. Check out Claire’s for more designs and styles.

With Kelly we went with a forward knotted braid. It was just Bohemian gold. Spot on for the look we were aiming for and it worked so well with her natural hair colour. Brandi added some body jewels across her brow line to finish off the look subtly. A more angelic look. Claire’s have lots of options in face jewels and bindi’s to really get in the spirit.

Electric Picnic Festival Style

Nearly time for the big one, Well for us on the Emerald Isle anyways. Electric Picnic is coming and have we outfits sorted ladies? Festivals are a great opportunity to have fun with your look. Wear something you wouldn’t normally wear. From face paint to metallic tattoos and headbands. Mix up your look and stand out from the crowd. That being said you will be in a field and lets face it Laois aint no Coachella. That shouldn’t stop you strutting like you are Vanessa Hudgens though, So while looking cool and carefree you will also need to be swamp appropriate lol, The kiddies will just be back in school that week so that usually means the sun will come out to play. Fingers crossed for the good weather cause drowned rat was so last season. Layering is key i feel so if the sun is shinning peel off a layer. If the rain comes add one. Personally i would pop some leggings or tights in my bag. Those mac in a pac’s roll up so small, you will have all you need for the evening. Festivals are the biggest toss up between Fashion and Function.

Here are some looks i like to think would kill it at a festival. There are so many styles you could go for. Put your own spin on things and be comfy. Hopefully there is something for everyone here.

Festival Fashion #2

For my second Festival outfit i have gone a little tougher. This look will also be better for colder/wetter times (Shudder).

Camo jackets are still going strong and a great look for festivals. I loved the denim revival this summer brought and thought how to do festival denim without going for the usual shorts. This denim dress is pretty but cool against the boots.
The boots are a play on the traditional wellies with these high-top Doc Martins Drench Wellington boots. They are both fashion and function which is the name of the game really.
The accessories really tie this look together. The blogger classic bowler hat just oozes cool. The fringe backpack keeps your hands free for dancing and ahemmm *coughs* beverages. Finally some midi stack rings finish off this look.

Festival Fashion #1

I haven’t been lucky enough to be going to any festivals this year (insert sadface). Didn’t stop me from compiling outfits for the occasion but. Here is my first pick of the pile “a break in-case of  miracle” if u will, and we happen to blessed with warm weather.

I am loving the kimono trend that has dominated this summer. This New Look lace and fringe number ticks all the boxes. Denim shorts are a fail-safe for festivals so goes without saying.
I am head over heels literally for these gladiators-HIGH-5 RIVER! I absolutely love everything about them. minus the rain means minus the muck at festivals allowing these babies to be rocked.

A simple white vest accompanied by a lion chain is simple and chic. The pop of colour in this otherwise monochrome number comes from the obligatory headband. The colours of this floral garland are stunning. Ive somewhat tied in the nails with these TOPSHOP summer shades.
