I have to say really enjoyed putting together my fashion favourites from 2016. So much so that i said i’d give it a go on a monthly or seasonally basis depending on what i have to share. Why not kick it off with January and see how the year goes. It is fun to look back on the things that i have lived in and remind myself of pieces or styles to try out again. These type of posts are almost famous in the beauty genre and i always find it interesting to see what others like and maybe take some inspiration for myself. So here we go with my fashion favourites and wardrobe winners from last month or so. I didn’t actually buy much in January at all so the post would have been quite a boring one. I was in serious hibernation mode and lacking serious inspiration. For the purposes of content i merged the first two months of the year. I’ve been wearing pretty much the same things anyways.
Comfort has been key for me the past two months. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you will no doubt have seen me ramble on and on , and on about these. I nabbed these Yeezy-who’s just after Christmas mainly because i liked the look of them. The print that runs through the fabric and the way these are laced up. Something a little different than your standard trainers. These were available in a few colours with the pink flying out. Although the blush tone is really pretty and perfect for the Summer months, they just aren’t as wearable right now. The black and white colour way fits into my wardrobe better and i don’t worry about them as much getting a little dirty. I have expressed lately how much i am enjoying incorporating more sports luxe pieces into my wardrobe. Not just for exercising or sport but now much sought after day to day pieces.
Faux Fur Gilet
The next piece that i have been basically living in, is something i have had for the longest time. One of those pieces that i invested in and has done me no wrong. Season after season , year after year. It isn’t something that has dated or that i can see dating either. In my 2016 fashion favourites i included another gilet but in a more natural tone. These are definitely wardrobe heroes for me. Not really a coat person myself so layering a gilet suits me perfectly. My favourite way to wear these is over a long sleeved dress. For me it emulates that 1970’s style i love so much. Day to day though wearing a faux fur gilet is a great way to add some texture and depth to an outfit. With a simple tee or white shirt and jeans. On a side note – how nobody commented on this picture saying love iron your dress i’ll never know.
When my feet haven’t been in my Penneys runners they have been in these. A purchase from just before Christmas if memory serves me correct. I had long been lusting after the to die for Givenchy pair but being realistic when was i ever going to own a pair. Off i went in search in a more affordable and wearable alternative. I spied these on Missguided and they looked just what i has been after. The site regularly offers discounts so it was a done deal. I have seen some other brands stocking them too since. The look is perfect for what i wanted with both the studding and buckle details. They look great with the simplest of looks of jeans and a band tee or add some dimension when worn with black tights. Come summer these will look really cool with a pretty dress and bare legs. A good choice of festival boot i think. I do quite enjoy the little clacking sound they make when i walk. Although they are more on the narrow side at the top, i am really happy with these.
I was lucky enough to be able to pick an outfit to wear to the V By Very SS17 Launch. The guys at Littlewoods are so good to me, i am honestly so grateful. I went for this pretty little floral dress. The shape fits me perfect and is a very flattering cut. The dark base makes it work when the weather isn’t as good but the vibrant print and playful details work for Spring Summer perfectly. The frill finish on the sleeve ties in beautifully with the ruffle and sleeve trends that have been dominating this season. There is beautiful delicate lace detailing across the collarbone that really adds another dimension to the dress. You can get a better look at that here. I paired the dress with a biker jacket and some cut out boots for the occasion but i think this little number could be really dressed up too. I cannot wait to wear this i Summer with bare legs and little sandals. This is gonna be a really handy piece to have in my wardrobe to just grab for last minute plans and transitioning between seasons. I think i chose pieces that i know i will get lots of wear from and will really love.
To Be Or KNOT To Be Handmade Necklaces *
Since the start of the year i have really been enjoying wearing these fabric necklaces. Made from recycled material by parenting blogger Kasia of The crafty Mummy. Kasia fashions up these hand made zpaghetti neck pieces in a different colours and prints. They are so comfortable to wear and adjustable too. Something really different that not many people will have. I love the recycled aspect of this, doing something creative while helping the environment. So far I’ve been wearing mine to jazz up plain tees but i am looking forward to wearing them with off the shoulder dresses on holidays. I have some plaited necklaces that are beaded that i love the look of but these are just so much more comfortable to wear and add more texture. I’ve my eye on a few floral patterns i spied on the Be Or KNOT To Be Etsy shop. These necklaces will be great addition to your outfit come festival season, especially with the pom pom trims.
Lastly is the little leopard bag. It might be small but it has a lot going for it. I’d been on the hunt for an animal print bag towards the end of last year. I’ve had several over the years that although are quite timeless and classic , had seen better days. I wanted something to add a pop of print and interest to outfits. Leopard print can go one way or another i feel and it is all in the print itself. When i saw this beaut in H&M the pattern struck a cord with me. It is a great version of the print. The colour and tone aren’t brassy or yellowish which i find a lot to be. There where a few things that stood out to me. Firstly the fabric was faux pony skin which really stood out. A soft , rich texture that was far from flat. The reverse side of the bag is a plain black which i liked. The contrast works and isn’t over-barring. Then moving on to the strap. Being removable meant i could use this as a clutch as well as wearing it as a cross-body. That was a factor that really appealed to me and i’d get more wear from it. Lastly the price came in under a tenner so it was a great buy. I brought my purchase on a girls weekend in Spain. With limited space in my carry on i had to be clever with what i packed. I wore this as a shoulder bag by day and a clutch by night. The print worked well clashed against the looks i wore. The black backing also meant i could wear the bag with that side facing too. All in all i don’t think you can go wrong with this one. I will style this little sac with various pieces in my wardrobe. From classic LBD’s for a chic night look. To thrown over a white slogan tee and jeans.
So there is a look at what i have been loving and wearing at the start of this year. All in all mostly accessories rotated around existing pieces in my winter wardrobe. I am looking forward to adding in some more Spring pieces as the season moves on. What Items have you been loving this month?
* I am lucky enough to be sent/gifted items from brands. This does in no way influence my thoughts or decisions. All opinions are my own. Any clothes i receive i choose myself and am very grateful. I only share things i really love.
