Thursday night saw the return of the Irish Blog Awards. This year, the online giants Littlewoods took the reigns to put on a spectacular show. Literally. I attended the awards for the first time last year as a guest with a brand. I was so new to the blogging world and sat in awe of the talent that surrounded me. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that one year on there i would be , a finalist.
It all kind of just happened. Not once did i ever think i was in with a shot. I went from nominated, to on the long-list and unbelievably a finalist in the best fashion blog category. I could not believe my eyes. It has never been about numbers or that sort of thing for me. Initially i wasn’t even going to post about the public vote. I never wanted this blog to be come across like that. I wanted to write and put out something that i would read myself. If only one person reads it, that is amazing. Staying true to myself and being real is the most important to me. I put everything i can into my work and it means the absolute world to me that people take the time to read and look at what i have to share. Needless to say i didn’t take home the prize. It has thought me to believe in myself and my little blog more. That i can do this. There is always next year (*wink*).
As if all of this wasn’t enough, Littlewoods were absolute dolls and offered to dress me. The fab girls over in LWI allowed me to pick a whole outfit from the V by Very range. Chuffed was not the word. I was starting to stress about what to wear, as i said i never expected to get far so i hadn’t even thought about an outfit. This lifted the pressure bigtime and i was like a kid at Christmas. Now the only problem was, with so much choice, what to pick?
Instinctively i started looking for black dresses. I mean you can’t go too wrong if you stick with black right? But i was desperately clinging to my tan for dear life and thought maybe i should go for something to compliment my skin better. Sorry black, it’s not you, it’s me. Don’t worry though we are only on a break. Never thought i’d be taking advice from Ross Geller circa ’97 but here i am.
I wanted something that was me and true to my style. I spied this lace dress in a stunning cornflower blue and new it was the one. It worked well with my colouring and was great for a change from standard black. A lot of people actually commented on the colour so i am pleased that my choice was a winner. For me with a dress, a sleeve of some sort is a must. As you can see the 3/4 length bell sleeves created great interest and had detail to be lusted after. Kind of a 70’s feel here but in more of a grown up style than i am used to. The shape was one i know to be flattering on my figure so the boxes continued to be ticked. The lace was really beautifully made and the fabric felt so good on. In fact i really liked wearing this dress, i felt so comfortable in it. That is so important and refreshing to be confident in the fit and feel of your clothing, something that you put your trust in for an occasion. There is nothing worse than pulling at your outfit all night, when you are uncomfortable it shows. I love that this range caters for a broad range of sizes too, huge thumbs up to that.
When it came to accessories i kept them quite classic and dark. This was to save myself falling too boho with the lace and my now uniform dutch braids. The aptly named Kendal shoe-boots jumped at out me. Beautiful, gold hardware added a luxe feel to my feet. Lace-up footwear are going nowhere. To tie in with the metallic detail i finished the look with this embroidered bird clutch. The gold thread tied in perfectly and added a little something extra. I hurt my foot and had to change out of my shoes which i did with a heavy heart. Injuries , six inch heels and circuses just don’t mix. These are two pieces i will definitely get wear of this Autumn Winter. Having statement accessories that are both chic and easy to wear is like gold dust.
Already, i cannot wait to wear this dress again. I am quite looking forward to mixing up the style with a biker jacket, some opaque tights and boots. I might try to add a belt or a statement necklace and see how that works for another option. A well fitting dress has so much potential and will always have pride and place in my wardrobe. A massive thanks again to Littlewoods and in particular Cara for all her help. What an amazing night i had surrounded with equally amazing people. Here is to next year guys…
