In typical me fashion this trip was very last minute. As i’d been saying of late, i hadn’t even really started on a holiday wardrobe at all. I usually pick up bits by the week and thereby i don’t feel it that much. After the past two Summers though i felt i was absolutely sick of what i had when it came time to go and i wanted all the new stuff out. In the end i would have way too much stuff and be disappointed that i couldn’t wear it all. As we know the weather here in Ireland doesn’t give us much opportunity to sport our Summer threads prior or post holiday. It was panic stations for me to try dress myself with not very much time. Everyone’s favourite Penneys saved the day as usual and totally hooked me up with what i needed. Nothing like a Penneys holiday wardrobe.
Affordable Holiday Clothes
Off i went in with my vouchers to nab the bits i needed. In mind i was looking for pieces that were versatile enough to be worn a few ways. I am sick to death of over packing and breaking my back lugging everything but the kitchen sink away on holiday with me. Mix and match was the aim of this mission.
I wanted some comfy , loose but flattering sundresses that could possibly be worn day to night. I think i did well on that one with these bardot dresses. Some of you may remember that i had actually done a post on these dresses. I just think they are excellent value , light and pretty. You can check that out here. The cut and shape of these dresses are exactly what i like and what i look for. They take up no room in your case and can be worn a number of ways. From over your swimwear , for day time exploring or dressed up with heels and some accessories for a night out.
Dress €10 , Bag €8 And Shoes €14
Head to toe in Penneys here and loving life. These shoes needed no more reasons for me to have them. Besides the comfy height , wrap-up style and affordability, i wanted to pair them with this striped dress. A perfect match. The dress again light, bardot cut and my cuppa tea. I sized down with this one as i didn’t want to belt it but in theory i probably didn’t need too. Bit snug but hey ho. I nabbed this bag in two colours to take with me as my only bags. I figured the size was handy enough for day to night. Black as standard and red for a pop of colour. My holiday wardrobe is very red/blue and not on purpose.
Dress €8 And Sandals €16 (Hat from Littlewoods)
Dress €8 (Belt from an old dress) , Bag €8 , Sandals €16
Again two super easy looks here with the same dress in different prints. Gingham is massive this summer and this dress is an easy way to tap into that trend. Clashing a pop of colour with the bag. I belted that one with a belt from an old dress from Penneys but you could use any belt of your choice. I loved the red, my holiday looks ended up being very red and i’m ok with that. I paired both with the lace up sandals that i really lived in. They went well together i think. These dresses could easily be tucked into a skirt also or belted over jeans to be worn as a top. Since i got home I’ve grabbed two new prints in this dress with 4 new ones to choose from. You can see them on my Facebook.
I also really needed some summer sandals. I’d had a clear out over the winter and being realistic about it sandals and flip flops can really take a battering. Penneys make it so affordable to up your shoe game with some fresh summer colours and texture. I am really pleased with the selection and ended up getting quite a few pairs. Adding a new pair of shoes to an outfit can really update it easily.
Adding a soft pop of colour to my holiday wardrobe with this extremely affordable pair of sandals. The very same as the black pair i’ve been wearing on my Instagram. Only €14 for a style like this is so good. A mid heel that is perfect for walking on cobble stones and taking an outfit from day to night. Ultimate comfort without compromising on style. The blue colour was a winner for me but there are also two other options of a khaki/tan tone and a coral come red shade that are also really nice. These can be wrapped as far up your leg as you like or just around the ankle. The bites on my foot aren’t available in stores sorry lol.
More insanely pretty summer sandals. I love the pop of colour in this combo. To lift even a plain white dress. These are a good option for those who don’t like the fuss up lace-up styles but like the texture of the bohemian pom pom types. Again there are some other colour ways but i really liked this option.
So happy with these little gladiator sandals. Surprisingly comfy for having such a hard flat sole. I love the variety the lace up ties bring and they do actually stay up on your leg. Lace the as high as you like or wrap them around the ankle. This is the kind of style i’d be looking to spend a good bit on but these were very affordable. Wearing them here with the little gingham dress from above. An easy to throw on , comfy outfit.
Swimwear / Cover-Ups
This is another part of my wardrobe that really needed updating. A lot of my swimwear had faded and lost shape so i was in need of some new bits. I was really pleased with how affordable the mix and match separates where. When it came to cover-ups and beachwear i was in the same boat. Tanning oil ruins lighter coloured pieces and leaves them looking old and grubby. At ten euro i was able to nab two fresh new cover-ups that i really liked and that suited my figure well.
Bardot Cover-Up Dress €10 ( Sizes S-XL )
Now this is my kind of cover-up. All off the shoulder everything for me. I loved the black lace but this style is also available in a neon toned coral too. This would look unreal with a tan. The shape is extremely flattering with the elasticated waist. I would actually wear this out as a dress with a little slip underneath.
Cover – Up €10 ( One Size ) And Sandals €13
Another Day Another Cover-up. White is an obvious choice for holidays being bright, fresh and looks so good against bronzed skin. This oversized tunic was really comfy and easy to throw on over my bikini. I loved that it had these little sleeves and the frill hem really added something. I wore this quite a lot and had it in my beach bag most days. It could easily be belted if you don’t like the fit of it on. There is a pale pink version too that i think i would be mad not to pick up. The sandals i loved. They added a pop of colour and interest in my day looks. Really pretty and the white will glow on tanned feet. The pom pom trim is bang on trend and perfect for summer. These are also in a tan colour too for those who are not a fan of white.
Mix & Match Bikini Tops €2.50 Each Sizes 4-18 (A generous 18)
Delighted to add in these bikini tops to my swimmers for holidays. I am a big fan of mix and match swimwear and how they look together on. These tops are only €2.50 which is insane. They go up to a very generous size 18 for those with a larger chest. The string can be loosened to make more coverage on the bust as a bandeau too. Super affordable and some fab colours too. i really loved the paisley print. It looks so good with a tan too.
And Finally ….
I couldn’t not get this towel. I have been lusting after round towels after seeing them all over instagram last summer. The fact this one was watermelon well that had me sold. 🍉’s are my thing but i’d wanted a circle towel ages. Win Win. A great blanket for picnics too. The towel itself is really big and cosy as well as making for some cute snaps.
Towel €20 , Flip-Flops €1 , Glasses €4
Those are the pieces i chose with my vouchers and i am really happy with them all. Each item served me well and really did their job. I cannot wait to see what else is to come for Summer. You can see some more shots on my Instagram. Thanks again Penneys, you always save the day.
