Greetings from stunning Marrakech. I am currently a puddle of sweat and cocktails, living my best life as the cool kids say. Before i flew out i hit Penneys for some much needed essentials. I was kindly given vouchers to put together another Real Life Fifty Friday. This time a Summer Edition. What better place to do this than on holidays.
Penneys Summer 18
I had so much fun with the Spring edition which you can catch up on here. Being able to see the clothes on the body and brought to life rather than flat on a white background makes a nice change. You can see movement , a truer representation of colour and how fabric sits on. I can also comment on fit , quality , sizing etc because i’ve physically worn the looks.
For this collection of looks i wanted a mix of day and night. Casual to dressy with potential to wear either way depending on your mood or plans. Dresses are a natural choice with light skirts following in a close second. I wanted to include some swimwear pieces in this one too with it being a holiday edition. Could i do it by having comfort and style all in one?
Holiday Looks Under €50
Here are some Summer holiday looks all from Penneys , all coming in well under €50 for a head to toe outfit. Every piece of clothing i am wearing is a size 20 for reference. The kaftan is an XL and the bikini top is a 40DD. I also reused some accessories in the outfits so it makes them even cheaper and saves precious space in your suitcase.

I have long been told that red is my colour and i learned that it did infact really suit my colouring. It is no suprise then that i opt for this tone whenever possible. I had originally in my head to go for a more muted colour palette for this look. Think mustards, tan etc but i just could not resist the red. The dress itself is a relaxed fit with stretch. Truth be told i could of got away with the 18 but i was happy enough to go with the extra room for comfort as i would be belting it anyways. First impressions on the hanger might not blow you away but as you can see it is so much more on. The belt took it from moo-moo to swis-woo for me. It defines the waist and gives the straight shaped dress a silhoutte. An extremely easy to wear , comfy holiday dress. After a hard days sunbathing to grab and wear to dinner.
Studded shoes are huge this summer, in particular sandals so i was delighted to see this pair. Crazy affordable while tying in the mule/slider style which is also one of the shoes of the season. I adore the metal trim around the sole that i feel looks so much more expensive. There was also a lemon colourway that i saw if the black is too heavy for you for your Summer wardrobe. I adore the edge they give and draw the eye down in such a subtle way. There are two other pairs of studded sandals below also that have a different fit and come in several colours.
Tassel earrings where a natural way to go with finishing accessories on this one for me. I never expected to love this type of earring so much but if it ain’t broke and all that jazz. The beaded make-up was perfect for adding in some interest but remaining summer appropriate. The tassel drop is all that is needed with a bardot neckline like this without overdoing it. Speaking of necklines – you could wear this one 3 ways. Pulled down off the shoulders as a proper bardot , off just one shoulder for the asymetric look or left on shoulders for a different approach.

Before i flew out i knew i wasn’t going to wear much other than swimwear and cover-ups by day. 40 degree heat doesn’t call for much else. If that is the case then i want some pretty but well fitting bits for around the pool. Kaftans are a great multi use/wear pieces to pack for sunny holidays. Throw on over your swimmers walking down to the pool , pop on when going to the bar for a cold drink and if you feel like you are getting a little too much sun it can act as the self titled cover-up that it is. Functional doesn’t mean boring and this kaftan is certainly not that. The colours are so bright and vibrant. Comfy , light , loose fitting and a must have for any beach bag. The printed fabric was also easy to keep less mucky than plain white version i usually go for. Tanning oil just ruins those.
It is great to see that Penneys are extending their swimwear sizing. To be able to pop into your local store and easy pick up a DD+ bikini top in your bra size is brilliant. Usually specialised, hard to get and quite expensive. The top here is cupped and underwired for support. The back ties so there is added room for flying swelling etc. The straps are removable so can be worn as a halter or a bandeau for sunbathing. I was really happy with the fit and look altogether. The underwire on oneside poked my arm a bit but bras do that to me too so no biggie there. I might be able to pop a stitch in the binding to stop it moving, we will see.
The colours of the slider style mules tied in so well with the kaftan and practically matched perfectly. A few people admired them and asked where they were from cause they just popped. The neon type tone looks so good on tanned feet. I am really getting into mule styles i have to say after being more of a gladitor sandal type of girl. So easy to just slip your foot into and no heel rubbing. As much as they match here i feel like they would look really good with plain white or jeans and a top even.

Navy Dress €14 (I cut off the straps) , Sandals €8 , Bag €8 , Belt €5 , Sunglasses €3 All Penneys
Total Outfit = €38
This next look was the last one i put together despite it being one of the first things i wanted to try. I saw this dress and grabbed both colours to try. The navy was an 18 and the blue a 20. As the navy was my first preference i decided to chance the 18 and was delighted when it fit on grand. The trouble came with the straps up on the shoulders – they just didn’t fit at all. I resigned myself to scrapping the option until i went to put the dresses back on the rail and saw a 20 was now there. The straps were still just too short i couldn’t get my arms into them at all. Lightbulb moment. I love bardots anyways so i’d just do a Gok and cut them off. And that i did.
I really liked the shape of the dress on. it’s the kind i like and feel works well for me. Comfortable in fit and make-up which you need for pottering around on holidays. Every other day too actually because who wants to be uncomfortable. I am really happy with how easy it was to snip off the shoulder faux tie style straps to reveal a true bardot finish. This is the type of dress that i want with me every year. One that can be worn so many ways and work for you whatever the plans. Wear it travelling , exploring by day , over your bikini or dress up for a night out with wedges and some statement accessories. Really lightweight to roll up in your case but very hard working.
The belt wasn’t an essential really for the dress as it has an elasticated waist that defines itself perfectly. I did however like the look of the tan of the belt tying in the other accessories to the look. Navy and tan are such a fab combo and quite understated. White is another option that is a well known Summer combo alongside navy. Giving bright fresh , sometimes nautical vibes that are very easy to wear. Adding these all in together creates a pleasing palette that isn’t overbaring next to the coloured print on the dress. I think the tan does that well while the navy is already there. The glasses i couldn’t resist.

So good i bought it twice. Well kinda. There is actually a word for buying something in more than one colour and it is driving me mad that i can’t think what it is. Anyways like i said above i had the idea of a mustard or yellow dress that i wanted for this challenge. Yellow is the colour of the season. The new pink thay was previously black. With the red being too much to pass over i got both. Win win really i think. There isn’t much more that i can comment on the actual dress that i didn’t already mention. The best way to describe the fabric was that of an airtext tshirt. Super breathable. I had been asked on instagram was it see through but i honestly never noticed. I did wear my standard tan undies though. The hem is unfinished so if you felt like making it shorter it would be super easy to do with no sewing involved.
I already knew where i was going accessory wise with this one. The tan/mustard combo was the dream for me. How i had imagined my Marrakech wardrobe. The belt again was essential but this time i went for the western buckle finish to pull me in at the waist. I possibly went overboard with accessories but sure look. Some of my favourite trends this Summer have been in the accessory variety. Hair scarves , statement earrings , western buckles , straw bags , stud shoes – i have them all here lol.

I won’t lie i got serious Madeline vibes from this outfit. I also won’t hide the fact that i was more than ok with that. It’s the mix of the contrasting red and blue with the hat i think. What an unlikely style icon but hey. I grabbed the top originally to go with a skirt i needed a red top for. The pretty anglaise style trim on it was so cute it stayed in my mind. I needed some light casual but pretty bits for lunch and exploring so when i saw this skirt it started to come together in my head. Ordinarily the red on blue would be too bold but as the print had similar tones it tied in well. Easy to throw on and wear. Light and airy for hotter climates with the added bonus of an elasticated waist for the buffet belly. I ended up wearing the top with a pleated midi too that i hadn’t planned at all and i loved it. The straps can be worn down on the arms creating a little bardot too. You can see how i wore it like that here. I must go in and get the black version too as it was a pretty top and the fabric felt really nice quality.

Straw accesories are The One this Season. They have the ultimate Summer vibe and are so easy to style. For me they have really being making an outfit by adding texture , subtle neutral colour and a lot of style. I’ve wanted a boater hat for ages and there is no better time to debut one than in the sun. Keeping that big yellow thing in the sky off of your head and neck while still looking effortlessly cool. It’s not something i or you will wear much so to be able to pick up one for a fiver is the ticket. You could easily tie a little scarf around the brim to match your outfit but the ribbon here worked well. To finish i paired the lighter stud sandals to co-ordinate with the straw elements and keep the accessories all in the same colourway.
You don’t need me to tell you that straw bags are HUGE this year. I have well and truly got in on that trend and cannot get enough. Again having such affordable options makes it even easier to give this trend a go. I used this bag so much from travelling to poolside to out at night. It ticked all of the boxes for me. The pefect size and the round shape ties in another genre of bag that is big business too.
You will be glad to know that the surgery to remove the bun from my hair went well lol. I am more tanned now too thankfully. That is it for the Summer edition of Fifty Friday. Fingers crossed i shall be back with an Autumn post very soon. Please do tell me what looks you would wear or how you would wear them?
The looks in this post where purchased using vouchers provided by Penneys. This in no way influences my thoughts or actions. All opinions and ideas are my own. I only share pieces and brands that i really love.
