Typically two piece trouser suits have been synonymous with menswear, work or a day in court. Towards the end of last year as Autumn / Winter took hold and statement suits were paving a way for themselves. We had started to see celebrities take risks on the red carpet by ditching the dress in favour of a more androgynous look. A real statement in such an understated and effortless way. More and more offerings crept into the shops making this trend really accessible.
Tailoring and more importantly suits don’t have to be boring. It really comes down to the styling with this one. For those brave enough, for a night out, i think that bralets , lace camis and bodysuits look so good underneath. For the even braver again – wear the jacket closed as a top in itself. Now that is fash-hun. Layer up some multi strand delicate necklaces to finish off this look. I think a suit is a really cool alternative for an occassion. Get the fit right and this outfit can really pack a punch. I particularly like an ankle grazer length to the trouser for a really modern take on the traditional tailor. Pair with a statement heel for a seriously stylish ensemble.
For a more laid back, casual look pair your matching set with some plimsolls or trainers. This way of pulling together the look is really streetstyle esque. Wear a tee underneath for a cool, understated take on the trend. Roll up your sleeves and do relaxed tailoring justice.
You can of course always rework for the office and add some interest to your mundane work wardrobe. Layer up with a polo neck to keep the chill out but Scandi-cool in. You can’t beat a crisp shirt for a smart corporate look. Don’t be afraid of pattern and or colour. Play with leg lengths and widths too. There are miles to be got from this quote on quote trend.
These type of suits don’t have to be statement one off wears. Settle them into your wardrobe as seperates too. The ever cool, effortless look of a blazer with jeans is not going anywhere. Wear the jacket belted over a pencil or tube skirt for full on late 80’s / early 90’s vibes.
I have put together some outfit inspo and ways to wear the aforementioned trouser combos. From smart casual, a night on the tiles, right up to occassion wear. This has been a fun one for me with lots of styling potential.
